Protaras is fabulous all year round. The weather is always pleasant, but in the heat of summer, as the sun reflects off the crystal-clear waters of the ocean, it’s a truly special time of year. There’s so much to do, you’re really spoilt for choice, but here are five great ways to spend a summer day in Protaras that we think are really special…

Relax at Fig Tree Bay

When the sun is hot, it’s time to relax and take it easy. Fig Tree Bay is the most perfect place for relaxing. Even when it’s busy in the summer months, there’s a tranquil sense of peace here. Chill out on a sun lounger, and soak up those beautiful panoramic sea views. Perhaps read a book for a while, or just watch the world go by. If the temperatures soar and you find yourself feeling a little hot and bothered, step into the clear blue sea and walk out into the ocean. The beach slopes gently and you can walk quite a way without getting out of your depth, it’s so refreshing on a hot summer’s day!

Visit a local taverna for meze

Cyprus has such a wealth of wonderful food to savour, when you’re presented with a menu, it can be so hard to decide what to order! The ideal solution is to try the traditional meze, a large and filling meal, that is presented to you as lots of small dishes of delicious local delicacies. It’s a great way to try a little of everything. You’ll be treated to fresh olives, breads and dips, fish, meat and vegetables. Plenty of pretty sea front tavernas will happily serve you up meze. Perhaps pick a table outdoors, order a bottle of fantastic Cypriot wine and take your time, staying to watch the sunset.

Go diving

In summer, the sea is the perfect temperature for diving. Protaras is world famous for the great diving opportunities available. If you’ve never dived before, this is the perfect place to learn, with many diving schools located here. With expert tuition, you’ll soon be skilled enough to discover the wonders of a world under water.

Visit a theme park

The Park Paliatso theme park is a great place to spend the day, a day the whole family will enjoy. From the scenic ferris wheel that will give you views of the island from 45 metres in the air, to the high adrenaline bungee ride that literally catapults you into the sky. It’s the highest ride of its kind in the whole of Europe! Are you brave enough to give it a try?

Take a walk to the Church of St. Elias

A summer walk is lovely, with the sun beating down on you. When it’s hot, you don’t want a walk that’s too gruelling, and the steps up the hill to the Chubrch of St. Elias should be just about right. This small, pretty church is very photogenic, but perhaps the biggest draw is the wonderful panoramic view from the top of the hill. It’s definitely a place to stop a while and just admire the stunning scenery.
