This latest venture is definitely going to ensure that Cyprus stays on the map for fantastic diving opportunities. A museum of sculptures, under the ocean!

Created by a British artist

The sculptures will be created by Jason deCaires Taylor, an artist from Britain. Jason has worked on underwater sculptures before as he’s the artist behind the Molinere Bay Underwater Sculpture Park in the Caribbean sea off the coast of Grenada. This installation has been listed as one of the 25 Wonders of the World by National Geographic. He also created the popular underwater museum in Lanzarote.

A museum of more than 70 sculptures

The plans for the museum have been presented to local officials including the mayor of Ayia Napa, the Fisheries department and the Minister of Agriculture and the project has now been given the go ahead. The sculptures will be sited in the sea of Pernera off the coast of Ayia Napa at a depth of around 10 metres. This museum will include at least 70 sculptures in total.

An underwater forest

The sculptures will be an awesome sight in themselves, but the plan for the museum is to site the sculptures within the world’s first underwater forest, a collection of crafted organic trees and underwater plants.
